Review CYC Stormer Bmx Frame School Race Mongoose Motomag Skyway Dg

The Cyc Stormer BMX frame, hailing from the iconic years of 1978 and 1979, is a true relic of the golden era of BMX racing. This frame is a vintage Motomag edition, a brand known for its durability and style in the BMX scene. The Cyc Stormer, specifically, is a Race Mongoose model, a name synonymous with speed and agility.

The frame itself is crafted from high-tensile steel, a material that was popular in the 70s and 80s for its strength and rigidity. The Cyc Stormer boasts a classic chromoly construction, which not only adds to its retro aesthetic but also ensures a smooth and responsive ride. The frame geometry is designed for aggressive riding, with a low center of gravity and a short wheelbase for quick maneuvers and tight turns.

The Cyc Stormer BMX frame features a traditional top tube, down tube, and seat tube design, with a horizontal dropout at the rear. The dropout allows for easy adjustment of the rear wheel, which is a crucial feature for BMX racing. The frame also includes a reinforced head tube, which provides additional strength and durability, especially during high-impact landings.

The Motomag Skyway DG decals adorn the frame, adding a touch of flair and personalization. These decals are reminiscent of the era, with bold, colorful designs that stand out against the frame's matte finish. The frame comes in its original raw steel color, which can be customized to your preference with a fresh coat of paint or a clear coat to preserve the vintage look.

In conclusion, the Cyc Stormer BMX frame is a must-have for any BMX enthusiast or collector. Its vintage design, durable construction, and iconic branding make it a true piece of BMX history. Whether you're looking to restore it to its original glory or give it a modern twist, this frame is sure to turn heads and provide endless hours of fun on the track.

Pros of buying a 1978-1979 BMX frame from brands like Cyc Stormer, Mongoose, Motomag, or Skyway DG:

1. Vintage appeal: These frames have a unique and nostalgic look that is highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts.

2. Durability: BMX frames from the 1970s and 1980s were known for their strong construction, making them a reliable choice for use or restoration.

3. Affordability: Compared to modern BMX frames, vintage models can be a more budget-friendly option.

4. Unique parts compatibility: Older BMX frames often have unique dimensions and threading that may not be compatible with modern parts, making them a great choice for customization and building a one-of-a-kind bike.

Cons of buying a 1978-1979 BMX frame from brands like Cyc Stormer, Mongoose, Motomag, or Skyway DG:

1. Limited availability: Vintage BMX frames may be harder to find in good condition, and when they are available, they can be expensive.

2. Maintenance and repair: Older frames may require more frequent maintenance and repair due to their age and potential wear and tear.

3. Compatibility with modern components: While vintage frames can be customized with modern parts, not all components will fit, and some may require modifications.

4. Safety concerns: Older BMX frames may not meet current safety standards, so it's important to ensure that the frame is in good condition and properly maintained.

Conclusion: If you're looking for a unique and vintage BMX frame with a lot of character and customization potential, a 1978-1979 frame from brands like Cyc Stormer, Mongoose, Motomag, or Skyway DG could be a great choice. However, be prepared for potential maintenance and repair costs, and make sure to prioritize safety by ensuring the frame is in good condition and properly maintained.

Recommendation: If you're considering buying a vintage BMX frame, I recommend researching the specific model and brand to better understand its history, condition, and potential compatibility with modern components. You should also consider the cost of maintenance and repair, as well as your personal preferences and riding style. Ultimately, it's important to choose a frame that fits your needs and budget while also meeting safety standards.

Details:

Of course coaster brakes were the thing back then I have chatted with some people online that had similar frames but brake bosses welded on by owners was blown away. Unsure if the 2009 Sn is original or not.

Frame has a light coat of silver paint on it, I was going to put decal kit it and hang the wall man cave style, but looks like cave is not in my near future anyway, 40 year old. I still remember the day in 1979 when two neighborhood kids rode over on brand new Stormer one red and blue skyway tiffs, eatable forks. So there are some kind of weird variations out.

Most likely 1978 or Cyc Stormer loop tail frame hey I was like 10, and riding a sears copy of Schwinn stingray. I eventually hassled my dad enough to get myself a rampart. Has some dings and stuff but really solid, a true piece of early bmx history. And just a bit jealous.

I did find pics of other ones with similar 4 digit numbers in same location.
